I've just come back from London and love seeing, there in particular, the old painted advertisements on the side of old buildings.

This kind of thing:

I have often wondered if there's some kind of charity that maybe maintains some of them, or whether they have any sort of protected/heritage status? I know they're essentially marketing, but they also have a lot of cultural/heritage/historical/artistic value.

Sounds delightful!

Did they not have marketing back then?

I feel a thread coming in

Yep. I like anything like this.... also a bit of a fan of old street furniture, things like post boxes, signposts, manhole covers etc

Very few of these sort of things have any legal protection, and tend to survive completely by accident.

THere may be some sort of website for old building ads, it's amazing how there seems to be someone with enough passion and commitment to do this sort of thing.

Roast beef, five veggies & Yorkshire puddings. Not forgetting orseradish sauce or a superb red from Australia decanted last night to mellow at room temperature.

Not so much... I see they have their own society, a London thing maybe.
