Only been here a day. When we arrived yesterday it was pissing down, so first instinct was to blame the wife for choosing it!

Today, and for the rest of the week, it’s sunshine all the way. A week is probably a bit long, tbh. We’re off to Braga for a day on the train.

There’s a lot of walking to do getting around so make sure your leg is fixed! Been down to the Doura riverside today, loads of bars, cafes and all the port brewers (?) are down there. Good vibes about the place. Portugal has gone craft beer crazy, too. On the ‘Born in the IPA’ last night. Very good, too.

Finding it fairly inexpensive as well which is always a bonus.

I reckon a long weekend would be best.

Oh, and there’s a huge mural on the side of a house. Don’t know who it’s supposed to be but he’s a dead ringer for Fred Dibnah

Porto is great - they have lots of small b&b style hotels called Pensaos. We stayed in this one and it was cracking.

Bumped into Howard Jones early this morning in Chard Tesco doing his shopping, had a little chat and found out he lives about 10 miles from me on the Taunton road, gave me 2 free tickets for Rewind Festival in July, what a nice chap he is.

Make sure you do Bom Jesus. A mental amount of steps but a good walk and its class when you get to the top, some stunning views. Also if you get time in Braga go to Taberna Belga... It's usually crazy busy but they do the best version of the local cuisine "Francesinha". It's class, and the beer in there is very good too (would recommend Kwak if you haven't had it before)

If you can get to Guimaraes (not far from Braga) then do that too. There's a cable car that takes you up a mountain and again has some great views.

Got tickets for Sporting v Porto tomorrow - 2nd leg of the semi final of Portuguese Cup. Taking the train to Lisbon early, mooch about, go to game at 8.30pm, stay overnight, mooch about day after and take train back to Porto. £85 for the tickets.

Apparently there’s bad feeling between the 2 sets of fans, so it should make for a decent atmosphere. I always thought travelling fans wasn’t the usual thing here, like it isn’t in Spain.

Be sat amongst the Lisbon fans, though.

Had one of those Francesinho sandwiches yesterday. Fuck me, it was huge. Found a great bar, Fabrica, that brews its own beer, too. Great stuff.

So he wanders round Tesco with festival tickets in his pocket - peculiar chap.

I hope you asked him what is love?

Unfortunately the flights probably aren't going to work when I'm looking so now looking at either Valencia or Madrid.

If you have to choose between Valencia and Madrid. Valencia. If you like building old and new, awesome. Great food too. Awesome main squares. It has such a chilled vibe. Madrid is a bit too "We are a metropolis" with the people, as nice as they are but Valencia just made me feel more welcome, relaxed and not a tourist. Here's a couple of pics of mine;
