1) it'd explain the bird's facial expression...

2) Not the first time he's held onto a bird's cock, fnaarrr...

The sound of Swifts.

I'm a big fan of swifts.....hence why I started this thread years ago.

http://thetownend.com/index.php?topic=28607.0

I'm happy to report that this year they turned up on May 3rd.  My fave is probably when they screech down Prospect Hill when I'm on my way to the pub of a summer evening.

Kestrels seem to be making a bit of a comeback.

Another thing for me at this time of year is chalk down flora....clocked pasque flower, last week in Dorset, a decided rarity west of the Chilterns.  Well exciting...also orchid season just getting underway  Smiley

I like the comments below. Some are kind enough to let us know she's really saying 'can't face' because, you know, we might not realise that otherwise.

Front page of the Times today is a woman accused of murder - her defence is "she didn't realise she had a gun in her hand at the time"

I know it shouldn't be funny and there's obviously more to it but wtf?

I've only seen one swallow so far this year, however there were hundreds of sand martins around when I went to Barnes at the weekend. Spotted what is presumably the same Kestrel in the same spot in Richmond Park on the past three visits, sadly unnoticed by almost everyone else.

It's not. It's (as usual) misreporting. Her defence is that she went to her ex's villa to confront him and his new mistress, he threatened her with a gun, she grabbed the gun and they struggled during which the gun went off, she then ran off up the stairs of the villa and when she looked down saw his body and then realised she had the gun in her hand, which she hadn't (apparently) previously. Which may well be about as credible a defence as we had last season, but is very different to how it was "reported" on the front of the paper.

One swallow does not a summer make.....swallows have been around since late April, I do like watching them at work over water, martins are always fun also, especially when flocking.

A friend of a friend started a language school in France called TDB. They never explained the initials to the authorities, but all their friends knew it referred to the canine testicular quality of their service.

Doctors appointment was early today.

On the downside I didn't finish the Postman Pat book I was reading. Mrs Goggins is probably still stuck at the bottom of the hill for all I know, the senile old fool.
