Yep watched that live. When it happened it reminded me of some early 90s F1 cars (and likely some late 80s ones) when the speed was there but not the safety and my first thought was "oh fuck no, not another one" and a potential huge setback for F1 safety.

They are like jets and when you saw that impact you can see why. It was like a burnt out fusealage. To see Grosjean appear from the flames was a massive relief. I can only imagine if he'd been at terminal velocity what the outcome may have been.

Then on the restart Stroll flipped and you just wondered if it was going to be one of those kind of days. Thankfully that was just a more "normal" kind of incident in F1.

A great reminder how dangerous F1 is and how bloody talented these designers and engineers are. But for a piece of kit that wasn't so greatly received when it was introduced, it has likely kept a man alive.

Unlike some footballers I would never begrudge the money any racing driver gets considering how they risk their lives

That is a nice touch. To see that us humans can be bloody thoughtful as Roman Grosjean is voted Driver of the Day.

That's brilliant. It's gone on the group chat for my brother's (postponed indefinitely) stag do planning and we are now discussing hiring Womble suits and hitting the pubs as Reservoir Wombles. I'll post pics here if it happens.

It would be nice if a load of us just put "Absolute Calamity" as our profile tagline for a couple of weeks. Would be childish but any Oxford lurker would have to see the funny side.

In fact, we were all talking recently about a new TEF tagline to replace to 25% 80% one we have...surely now this is the perfect opportunity to immortalise a now tongue in cheek phrase?

Grosjean's impact was 130mph, 51g. Beyond lucky to be alive, I was surprised he was not unconscious and able to get himself out. Reminded me of a crash in the Japanese Super GT race at Fuji in '98, horrible to watch, I'm frankly amazed and beyond greatful that Romain is still with us!
