Tbf, the comments section make that article far more entertaining. I am now wondering if Marjory is still stood behind the mattress, 10 years later unable to move beyond the realm of the alleyway  Hmmm

I fear, from looking at Google, that Marjory passed away in March 2018.

According to Gavin Williamson, giving then 'inflated' grades would lead to them getting job 'beyond their competence'.

My cynical assumption, based on that screenshot ,is that said pupil is from Hartlepool and 'they' don't want such 'riff-raff' getting into a good university...

Its does seem to  be being reported that the NE/NW have been particularly hit.

Figures released by The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (OfQual) showed 39% of entries were downgraded by one or more grades compared with teacher predictions.

Its no longer the exam system we all grew up in, Williamson has successfully turned it into the fucking Hunger Games.

He's fucking useless bag of cunt. Lucky for me, my one Y13 student got the grade we said he should, and it seems as though appeals won't be through the roof - not sure what the general picture is in the SW but no surprise the north has been hit harder.

students have been fucked over by Covid, no doubt about it

my son is struggling with his GCSE science. got a *really* shit mock, but was improving and we had paid for private tuition to do everything we could to up it.

if they mark down his predicted grade he's screwed.

the offer to take exams in the autumn I don't get. if he doesn't get into college for September wtf is he supposed to do?

take a year out? then there's the question of who the hell can help prep him for exams in presumably a month or so left before the exam.

Williamson's contents are rediculous too.

Astonishingly, it seems that private schools have seen an improvement in their grades by around 5% while those hardest hit by downgrades are in poorer or socially disadvantaged areas. Who'd have thought it? If GCSEs are decided by the same algorithm the effects are likely to be even more marked as A levels already tend to pre-select for the better off.

The class system is not just alive and well in this country but back with a vengeance.

I understand that its less to do with the school as such and more to do with class sizes (although obviously the two are rather linked) insofar as the algorithm that Ofqual use gives more weight to teacher's predicted grades when students are in a smaller cohort.
