She is paid bi-weekly, so withholding 40% of her pay would undoubtedly take her below minimum wage.

Sounds like a company that is in the shit.
Eventual course of action would be to shake the dust from her feet upon leaving and making sure that everything that is due has been paid.

I’ve never, ever woken up with a start or mumbled in my sleep or anything like that.

Yet, last night I sat bolt upright and tried to throw Mrs Audrey out of bed. I know at the time I was dreaming that I was sat next to someone on a bus who revealed themselves as an Oxford fan.

Make of that what you will.

In fact, if I didn't have any further info this smacks of a company in serious financial trouble.  It is the type of thing a business might try and do to have cashflow for a very short period to pay some pretty urgent dues.  Make sure she refuses to accept the letter.

The plot thickens. The letter that has been sent to all members of staff has absolutely NO details of any pay being withheld. It's just bullshit company propaganda saying that in their staff survey, "one of the biggest requests was for a new payroll system - well we listened."   Also offers details of bridging loans for those who will experience financial hardship.

Turns out some of her colleagues have been talking over the weekend and some of them are prepared for war over this. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at her workplace tomorrow, especially as there's about 10 chefs, most of whom don't mince their words.

Edit: She's now spoken to a boss this morning, who, using his best company language, explained they're not losing the 4 days pay, what's happened is their pay date has been moved along by 4 days, so in affect there's always 4 days in lieu... Ah, ok. That's fine then, thanks for clearing that up.  Roll Eyes

Recently I have been asked for my post code or email address by retailers when making a purchase, namely Dunelm & ASDA. A swift but polite no soon remedies that. On top of that the Vodafone rep in town tried to flog us a, wait for it, tracking device. I may be cabbage looking but not that green.

That reminds me, when procrastinating like Flashheart earlier, I saw this below - the bit I refer to is at 7:20. The non-link opens at the right place.

To use a quote from the comments, "Remember kids. If you’re ever illegally pulled over, the proper response is to put a mask on and walk into your local police station with an assault rifle. Common sense."

Fucks me off too.  Always tell them I don't have an email address, all they want to do is bombard you with shit loads of emails about crap you're not interested in.

Just been shopping in Reading. Parked up in The Oracle car park and immediately thought - ‘Theres something missing’.

Then it hit me. The car park didn’t reek of piss like the ones in Swindon.

Missing out on a promotion within my own team, not because I can’t do the job (I’ve been doing most of it for the last 6 months), not because I failed the interview (was told my interview was of a good enough standard for a higher level job) but because they chose an external candidate with ten years more experience

I get it objectively, I’m pissed off personally
