We used to be lazy and order our food shopping once a week from either Ocado or Amazon Fresh. This would generally cost anywhere between 80-150 quid.

This year we have decided to cut down on thrifty spending and instead we do our weekly shop in Lidl (or occasionally Asda). We now generally spend between 40-50 quid a week. Its amazing how much food you can actually get for that amount of money. Its easier for us as there are only 2 mouths to feed but with enough willpower you can make savings and eat healthily (if that's what you want of course)

You buck the trend, supermarkets want to people to go into stores rather than online shop as a person will generally spend more in a shop due to impluse buys.

Although obviously the pricing between Lidi and Occado are quite different

I get the core stuff from cheaper supermarkets, use the more expensive ones for specific things. One person could get by on shopping costs of between £150 to £200 per month.

When on-line shopping first arrived on the scene, thought I'd give it a go, as Sainsbury's offered it for free.

Didn't like it, got things you didn't want and no chance to be creative. So it was back to cycling up to OT from Bridgemead, with most of the weeks shopping for 4, cunningly stowed away. Shopping basket on handle bars, panniers on the back, rucksack and 2 bags off the handle bars, roughly equally weighted.  Surprising how much you can carry.

Done it a couple of times in the past too, when we've had a save £10 on a £40 online shop. I really don't like it. I like to choose my own produce and check the dates, etc.

i do all the cooking in our house and do the food shopping at Aldi, on my own each Friday after work (For two adults, a toddler and a newborn) and spend approx £50-£60 a week, and that includes nappies.

The list Bamboo posted would no way cost anywhere near £12.50 unless he's getting most of it from a food bank.

I'm on my one but posted something on Twitter a couple or three weeks back about groceries spends. Asked people how much they thought I'd spent. There was enough for one person for about 10 days to 2 weeks (depending on how much of a greedy cunt you are) but should've done two people and possible a young child for about a week.

There were;
4 x Pork Steaks
8 x Chicken thighs
8 x Bacon Rashers
1kg Rice
500g Pasta
Medium Sliced Loaf
Biscuits
8 x Crisps
2 x tins of toms
1kg Chips
500g Cereal
3 x Bananas
10 x Oranges
300g Mushrooms
500g Butter
4pts Milk
40 Tea Bags

Came to £12.50

I will add I'm pretty skint but I won't plead poverty, of course I will shop thriftly (stingy cunt, call it what you like). Even when it was the ex & I we rarely went over £50 for a weeks shop. I understand larger families of course spending more but you can take advantage of bulk buys/multi buys that won't get wasted so much. Herein I think lies the issue. We generally (as a collective nation) buy way more than we actually consume. Hopefully the trend is happening and becoming common place that any food we don't eat, is sent to a food bank/given to homeless shelters. As long as it's ok. They bloody need it more than us.

We all like a good feed but gluttony in this country is disgusting. The waste it carries with it is the unfortunate friend.

No way that came to 12.50. If it did, i want to know where as that's where i'm shopping. I shop in asda, and purchase a lot of what is on that list and I guesstimate that to be £20

As a family of 4, we (I) spend on average 70-80 quid a week on shopping. Sometimes more if laundry or cleaning products are required

Bamboo's list would cost a lot more than $12.50 out here.

My wife is northern, and she'd struggle to get near  £12.50 Smiley

Even with short date code food discounts that would be remarkable. Where the bloody hell do you shop bamboo?

If the dates are crap just complain and you get it refunded and keep it, my DW gets the vast majority of our stuff online (its a c.30 mile round trip to a decent supermarket from here) and when they bugger it up, which they often do, a quick complaint on the app and its refunded and you get to keep it so if the dates crap we just use it at the start of the week. She also pays for a yearly pass for delivery and thus we can get 3-4 deliveries a week.

If we go somewhere we may pop in and pick up bits and bobs or uniform stuff for our DD in passing but that's it. Hate supermarkets and will avoid them like the plague, they seem to be invariably populated by people with zero spatial awareness!

I'm a sad cunt so I added it all up from the aldi website using the cheapest available product. I had to guess for the fresh stuff as they are not listed on the website.

Came to £14.52 so around 15% more expensive than BambooNoShop reckons.

Even sadder is I started to add it up based on the prices I knew for things like chicken thighs etc. and realised it wouldn't be far off.

So not too far out, and if you could say get the meat from the on use by date stack, perhaps doable....especially in the north.

Aldi and Lidl are so cheap these days, there's no reason to be spending hundreds of punds a week on food.
