No pigs in blankets to be found anywhere in Asda last weekend. Was devastated

Probably Brexit related.

I always rather liked Candida Doyle, she seems to have aged rather harshly, I must be getting old

Those days when you just cannot muster the slightest bit of enthusiasm or self-discipline to get some work done.

I had might as well just go to the pub I suppose...

Headteachers are protesting about budget cuts. Yes times are hard at the moment, but most are claiming travel expenses are being paid for today.

Bit ironic.

You're right, if head teachers got paid less then school budgets would definitely rise. Guaranteed. 100%.

Some headteachers are superb and deserve the money, some aren't so. This isn't just headteachers though, this also relates to all teaching staff. We have some staff turn up at 7am and don't leave until gone 5. Some arrive at 8.40am (school starts at 8.50) and leave by 3.15.

Yeah but you don't know what they do outside of those hours, or what their personal circumstances are. I actually have a few family members who are teachers and just because one if home by 3.30 doesn't mean that they don't spent the whole evening, planning lessons, marking homework. Some just prefer to do it at work, others at home.

A train journey to london from swindon is around £100 return.

They will be claiming that on expenses.

Being able to afford to protest against perceived inadequate pay is not ironic. 100 quid is nothing in context. What would be ironic is if they were using expenses to protest against not being able to use expenses. That's not what's happening though.

Are they even protesting against their own salary/expenses anyway? They're protesting against cuts in general aren't they? Being able to pay for this particular protest does contradict overall cuts at all.

I have recently been appointed as a school governor, after seeing how much they do that I was never aware of and the amount of red tape they have to wade through they deserve every penny they are paid!

As for expense claims that will be up to whether they are on school business and I assume at the discretion of others, as the march wasn't first thing the tickets will not be peak and thus nowhere near £100 a bounce?

Quite. There's plenty of teachers who may have to leave ASAP (e.g. because they need to get home to be there for when their own child gets in from school) but will then do another 3 or 4 hours work in the evening. Presenteeism is no reflection of how hard someone is working if there's an option to do some/all of the work from home.

Not if the school governors are doing their job.

Not if the school governors are doing their job.

Rather depends, the event is seeking more money for the school, its not a strike for teacher pay or what not so it may be the case that 60 odd quid for a ticket is deemed a price worth paying by the school and compared for the budget of even a small school like overs (60 odd pupils) its just pissing in the wind!
