Mainly to get them into certain schools I suspect, we have friends who bang on incessantly about their atheism (bizarrely we also have friends who are practicing Catholics, but the only time religion ever comes up is with those who like to witter on about it being nonsense!) and they made a big deal about having non religious weddings etc, but when the kiddies came along they have been christened as the best local school where they live is the C of E one.

Our little one was christened as my wifes family are quite catholic, however we were married out of church as I am if anything agnostic, but she will make her mind up when she is older one way or the other, doesn't seem to have affected others as my most vociferous atheist friends were all christened yet they seemed capable of making their own decisions, yet apparently don't trust their kids to be able to do likewise.

I would have been christened but as a bastard the church wouldn't christen me.

A woman i work with got her daughter christened so she could get into the same school has her brother. Her son managed to get in without being christened but didn't want to leave it to chance with her daughter.

When I got married I would have been happy to do it on the Marlborough Downs which I could see from my house as a child. However, my wife's family are Catholic's and regular church goers so that was a non starter.
Before they would marry us we had to go for "instruction' with the local priest, but one of the pre-requisires was that I had been christened (albeit not in a Catholic church). As it happened I had (and my Dad had kept my Christening record) so it was OK. I'm presuming if I hadn't they would either have refused, or I'd have had to be christened as an Adult.

Our son was christened in a Catholic church, as our local junior school was the Catholic School.

Never given it a second thought. Our lad is 2. We're not religious in anyway and got married in a hotel.
Will certainly never get him christened. If it's a requirement for a certain school then that school's not for us. Religion shouldn't be taught in schools.

I think my parents got me christened for the party. Everyone was hammered from what I've been told.

Where my children went to school until last year.  Not because of the catholic thing, just that I lived 5 minutes away on Lowden.

Why the Mayor of London would allow this is beyond belief, perhaps they'll do a blimp of him
