What purpose does the centre circle in football have anymore? I assumed that with the new kick off rules the ball still had to leave the circle at kick off before another player touched it, but watching the Leicester game today that doesn't appear to be the case?

the ball had never had to leave the centre circle before anyone else touched it has it?

it keeps the opposition  the required 10 yrds distance from the centre spot during kick offs. I assumed the only change was that the ball could go backwards from ko

oh and it acts as a holding pen during penalty shootouts..

Indeed ignore my fuckwit moment. However as it is now passed a distance at kick off rather then two players pissing about (with the scope to be closed down) with it does the circle have any point?

keeping the opposition 10 yards at time of kick off.

penalty shootout pen

and it doesn't have to go a distance. and can still go forwards old school.

So that you can have a minutes applause/silence before a game, without the ref having to spray shaving foam down, which I'm sure we can agree would be undignified.

Why do people still wander around in shorts and flip flops in the depths of winter?

Poseurs?

I must confess I do this. It's usually because I wear shorts around the house as I find them more comfortable, and if I need to pop out to the shop or somewhere I don't see the point in getting changed. Flip flops are easier than putting a shoe/trainer on and then tying the laces.
So basically it's laziness. Cheesy

I agree with this. Also people that put their hoods up when there is no moisture in the air, what's that all about?

Or people who walk around with their umbrellas up when it's slightly raining

It wasn't even slightly raining this morning and I saw two people with umbrellas up!

Yes. I've a couple.  A small telescopic, which lives in my rucksack....very useful for when out walking, and caught in a downpour.  Then a larger thing....I have used it it storms, and agree wind is a problem, but the trick is to twizzle it to make sure it is pointing into the wind direction.  Good if walking along something like the Wansdyke, where it can sheet in almost horizontal, but it's a consistent direction.

When I was a lad you wore shorts all year round, more or less up to what is now Y9. Trousers were expensive, post war austerity, not today's namby pamby sort. Lads spent their time outdoors playing, it was rough and tumble, so you'd ruin trousers if you had any.

I guess by Y9, most became a bit less feral, and more swotty.
