Apu, the Indian shopkeeper in The Simpson’s, is being dropped from the series because of complaints about his stereotypical portrayal. That, plus the fact that Hank Azaria (a white American) voices him which has led to comparisons of Peter Sellars back in the 60s.

The fact that Homer is portrayed as the stereotypical ignorant, lazy and overweight American male seems to have slipped by unnoticed.

Of course, as is the norm, these complaints haven’t been made from anybody inside the Indian community in the USA.

People really do need to lighten up.

This is an area where some people with "Progressive" views do themselves no favours.

If the portrayal was being used to poke fun at the fact that Indians can only be shopkeepers, or something like that, then I'd understand, but the subtleties seem lost on people.  The mickey taking is pointed squarely at the traditional USA citizen, not the Indian.  In fact, if they could have done anything, they probably should have had some reference to Indians taking all the IT jobs.

The Brexit commemorative 50p.  Are they deliberately trolling people who want to remain?

(Lets not get into the rights and wrongs of Brexit in this thread.)

Almost posted earlier that this apparently wasn't true, but that was only word of mouth. Al Jean says it's not happening (thankfully)

I was pretty sure there was some "fake news" rumour of this sparked up on the net, a while back. To me the idea was likely re-started up by a "right leaning activist" to make out that lefties were causing up a stink...cue "political correctness gone mad" etc. Hence the likely response. Objective achieved. To cause further division. When in fact the issues were brought up by Hari Kondabolu. An American of Indian descent.

Thankfully, we're not all that stupid. As mentioned, certain this is old news.

Sorry Aud but that's total bullshit. The debate was publicly triggered by Hari Kondabolu. Who wrote a documentary called "The Problem with Apu" in 2015/2016 (released 2017). Kondabolu is American born, of direct Indian descent.
