Found out someone is using a picture of me on tinder.. I'm a) confused as to why b) confused as to how they think it's going to work if they meet up, unless I've got a long lost twin and c) deeply creeped out

A young friend of mine recently showed me what Tinder was about. Do you pout?

Halfords oil pricing. Needed some oil so went and put in my car reg, it told me what I needed and it had a picture. Nice I think.

I pick it up and notice on the bottle it says “for Vw/Audi engines” and it’s fully synthetic 5w/30 and £23.

Then I notice all around it loads of 5w/30 for all sorts of cars all at different prices. As 5w/30 is 5w/30 (I believe) I bought the one for Vauxhalls which was £14. Fuck you Halfords you cuntlords.
ha, had same just Tuesday. oil is very fucking confusing. Yours is the same grade I needed for the Skoda. As the light/warning came on (yes yes, I should have checked more frequently) I bought some Castrol. that was £14 for 1l!! got the halfords £23 for 2l  to put in boot ....

I'm not sure 5w/30 is 5w/30. or at least that it's not guaranteed to be to vw verified spec. you get into their standards 502 00, 504 00 and 507 00 for normal, long life and diesel service regimes.. very confusing

but I bet in reality it's absolutely fine to use what you put in without issue

I must admit the numbers you mentioned confused me also, but the fact that my oil (diesel Skoda like yours) was the same as the oil (5w/30) for my woman’s 12 year old petrol Civic, made me question the honesty of their oil.

My thought process was Halfords aren’t an oil company. Oil companies sell one sort of 5w/30, and are far richer than Halfords and unlikely to leave money on the table. Plus, I have never in my life previously purchased manufacturer specific oil.

I was also reminded of how drug companies rebrand a drug like ibuprofen for period pain, back pain and loads of other related ailments and increase the price loads for what is just ibuprofen.

I could be wrong, but fuck ‘em. I saved £9 and I’m childish.

5w30, 10w40 etc. is just a measure of viscosity at certain temperatures.

The other codes relate to additives and detergents which affect the longevity of the oil, the deposits it leaves in the engine, cleaning properties and such.

So all 5w30 will do the same job of lubricating the engine, but the manufacturer specific versions are designed to keep the oil flowing correctly around the engine and stop oil ways from gunging up etc.

You can get 5L of oil for £25 in Eurocarparts. Just have to be clever and use whatever discount code is available and order to click and collect.

Earlier, I found the willpower to leave the pub at 8PM after 4 pints.

It's all downhill from here.

At least with an uphill walk to the pub it makes that first pint even more enjoyable
