http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/15541221.Surgery_horror___It_s_ruined_my_life_/?ref=mr&lp=1

Why is this "news"?

I appreciate it might be a very annoying and painful experience for the individual concerned, and I don't for one minute want to belittle her circumstances, but as far as I can see, she had private non-essential surgery at a specialist private clinic.  She has had "complications" and then corrective surgery, which would no doubt take a while to recover from anyway.  She now wants to have further private surgery in another Country and the Adver are covering the article purely from the angle of the gofundme effort?  I have no issue with someone taking such private enterprise, but why get free advertising?  If the article was an effort to uncover some sort of medical malpractice then it would make more sense, but it doesn't seem like any occurred, or even any effort to claim as much.
I concur totally. Pointless article of "news".

But 5-a-side is the most participated sport in the country among adult males.

People just don't have 4 hours a weekend to give up.

Why is this? The weekend still has the same number of hours, as say in the latter part of the 20th century. Perhaps other forces at work  Hmmm

There were 7 divisions as recently as 2012 so the reduction has been rapid.  Maybe quality of pitches since austerity and some players then preferring 3G pitches and futsal? I stopped playing in 2013 and noticed that the teens/early 20s playing then didn't seem to like the aggression and physicality that the older lads enjoyed. You don't tend to get slide tackles etc in 5 a side?

Solicitors insisting on sending letters constantly instead of emailing or picking up the fucking phone. The whole process of buying a house would be so much quicker if they actually spoke to eachother

The whole process seems antiquated.

That is a sudden decline... we know that post the 2012 Olympics rather than the hoped for legacy of a sport engaged populus, we got an obesity epidemic.  Coca Cola and McDonalds don't invest millions of $ into sponsorship  for nothing.

Back in the early '60s it was a new league, just 1 or 2 divisions, we used to go down to Shrewsbury Rd cos you could watch 4 games at once. We used to 'support' the most inept team I've seen, they were called something like Corporation Highways, basically a team of binnies.

We used to think they expanded the league each season so this team could drop down to a more suitable level. The centre half wore glasses.... he headed the ball once (probably literally) and a lens fell out into the mud. Classic. Used to get beat 1-16 or similar most weeks.

On one of the pitches the Polish sons of the WW2 immigrants used to have 2 or 300 watching them, Błyskavika(sp?) Happy days.

Blyskavica, or however it was spelt, I was unreliably informed means Flash of Lightening, which I thought a good name. Chubbs will put us right.

My personal faves were West Swindon Thistle...this a time when West Swindon as now didn't exist, but it was a name for the area around Westcott Place, Radnor Street etc and so consisted of Scots and Irish, who drank in the Ship, Gardeners Arms, Wild Deer etc as well as the WMC in Radnor Street.   Celtic fans, so played in green and white you could guarantee a punch up per game.

Yeah but when you can charge x for a letter but only y for a phone call or email which option you going to use?

I can understand the need for a paper trail but email provides that. I often do work which overlaps with property legals and I sent my first letter in 3 years a couple of weeks back, and that was only to an old guy who didn't have email.
