I have to say, I used to be a big fan of Apple. I went to an Android phone about 3 years ago and recently upgraded to another Android phone. On a personal level, the Android phones are streets ahead of iPhone, I like how you can customise things, I like how you can get the same tariffs yet pay up to £8 less per month etc.. again, it's not for everyone, but they're my reasons.

I did miss Apple Music, luckily I get that for the duration of the contract via the Android app.

Apples last big innovation was probably the Ipad I suppose, which also radically changed a market.

Innovation?! Microsoft invented the tablet PC in 2000, a full 10 years earlier than Apple. Changed the market, yes. Innovative, no.

I don't really care what phone people have, IOS isn't for me but horses for courses.

I did however enjoy winding the guy who used to sit next to me up that my £99 smart ultra 6 could do everything his £600 iphone could (apart from finger print recognition). He has left now.

Didn't Apple invent everything including the wheel and employing staff in the far east for peanuts making your grossly overpriced products?

To be fair to Apple, when they launched the Ipod, it didn't take CD's.

MP3 players had already existed for years.

Oh it will. They have to become standard, the corded variety are so annoying. But it's far too early for me to adopt, especially considering the quality of apple headphones over the years has been terrible. I've spent a significant amount of money buying decent headphones, I want to be able to use them.
That and the pisspoor battery life. If Apple want people to use another technology that drains the battery on the phones, then stopping people having to worry about battery life should be a priority. In fact, if they could invest some of their billions in helping battery storage move beyond the current size/weight limits (and probably away from lithium as a result), then that would be a genuine innovation, rather than taking existing technologies, adding some white curvy bits and trebling the price. Same goes for Google in terms of their failure to invest in this area, it's the major limiter stopping mobile tech going to the next level and why the current generation of phones have been stuck on a "me too" plateau for the past 3 years or so

Indeed, but who has made most money out of it and essentially cornered the design market?  I'm no fan, but they are doing well enough not really to have to care I suppose.  Most products in the markets they play in tend to end up trying to mimic their design, even they were around before, so in that sense they do ok because they bend the market to them.  The thing that does mildy irritate me is people suggesting they need to change their approach - they don't, it works.  Don't like it, don't buy it, but don't be surprised if others copy.

Even their fiercest critic can't fail to be impressed with their design and marketing departments. Making the iPOD market leader despite being saddled with iTunes is no mean feat.

And anyway, I've never had any desire to be first. I wouldn't have got on a plane on its first journey. Or owned a Galaxy Note 7 without watching my friends catch fire a few times first.

You can use them - that's the point!
