I once got ridiculed for suggesting there were three ways to spell where/wear/ware. It was the latter one which my uni housemates didn't recognise and by the time their laughter died down enough for me to prove ware was indeed a word they didn't give a shit. That annoyed me.

Yes, fully understandable Ware is also a place....years ago when I was nipper, my parents used to get a visit from people who they shared their house with during the war...it was a bit of a standing joke, as they came from Ware. It must get a bit tiresome for denizens of that Hertfordshire town.
