If you've lost your P45, and want to claim back tax, are the company your worked for entitled to give you a replacement one on request?

Do you mean obliged ?  The bumpf on the bottom of the official document says that the employee should keep it safe as copies are not available. The employer does not keep copies, it hands the whole doecument to the ex-employee.

The answer would appear to be 'no'  You'll need to contact the Tax Office or your new employer and fill out a form P46.(I think) You should take a look at the HM Revenue and Customs site.

I don't know what posessed me to click into this thread, I should've known it wouldn't be very exciting from the title.

Doesn't a P45 just make it easier when you change jobs and ensure you go on the right tax code?

Wouldn't you need a P60, or just your wage slips, to claim back over paid tax?

Provided it isn't a huge amount you're owed, I think they just adjust your tax code for the following year to correct it.
