It really should have been Phil 'The Power' Taylor, the most dominant sports-person of all time

I agree that Giggs has had a great career, but it's not over yet. What specifically has he done this year to warrant the award ?

This year Ryan Giggs must have started twenty football matches, in some of them he played quite well.

He no doubt deserves recognition for hie whole career, but to pretend that his sporting achievements over the past 12 months (or his personality) merit this award is taking this piss.

apologies two in three. but it doesnt necessarily change the point - people from england's votes are probably shared around a number of candidates, whilst the scots and welsh will all back the same one

It is British Sports Personality of the year. If they are fully deserving of the prize, it shouldn't matter which part of the British Isles they are from.

Honestly

Truthfully

Who gives a fuck? Its a good watch as a review of the sporting year, sod the awards. No-one becomes a sportsman/woman/horse with this as their career goal

Au contraire, it used to be a good review of the sporting year, when the BBC had some sports to show....but it's not been worth viewing for years now.

It used to be a proper Sports Review of the Year programme, now as in sundays programme,
the emphasis is very much on the cult of Personality.Right the way through sunday evening
we were bombarded with the top 10 candidates,at every opportunity.

There used to be a spot of humour, with various sporting outakes and an invitation to some
sportsmen and women to make themselves look a bit silly.
eg Frank Bruno and others trying to play an interactive game of golf etc etc.

The BBC claim that by holding the event at the NEC or the Sheffield Arena that it's taken the
event to the people. Not so,the vast majority of tickets are by invitation only, with a huge proportion
going to the corporate sector.Remember this years Orange BAFTA's,with the sponsors name constantly
rammed down our throats at every opportunity?

Come on BBC,you've done it very well in the past and you can do it again.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but I heard that Giggs winning was down to a betting syndicate?

Giggs was 100/1 during the day on Sunday, by the time the lines had closed, enough money had been bet on him that he was then the 3/1 favourite, and he was odds on by the time he was announced.

Someone was betting heavily and phoning like crazy to get their man! Seems easy enough to do...

Quite simply Man U fans voted for Giggs.  Probably the largest fan base of any club in the UK, particularly as the majority are Arm chair fans who would be likely to vote by phone. I would say the average voter was a ManU fan from Hertfordshire who has never seen them live.

Agreed..........Its who ends up in the list that makes it a fix...
