hello friends

my computer keeps disconnecting itself from the internet. it's most annoying.

i use buffalo dongle and have checked and the driver is as up to date as can be, however it just keeps doing it.

also, potentially linked, keep being told "windows has stopped working and will close" (or words to that effect) except i click ok and it stays open.

any ideas what could cause that?

lots of love

Mine kept doing the same, but I realised that if I kept the steam application open then it keeps the connection alive. Don't know if that'll help you as I use a network that is provided by my building management and requires a password, I think it times out automatically.

it just managed to disconnect during an AVG sweep so it seems a bit strange...

If your message is "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will close" and you are running Vista there is a shed load of suggestions in this thread:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/itprovistasetup/thread/3b9bf8c9-7a04-4b8a-9952-0e8ff9662998/

Agree with PtP that it is probably an unwanted infection (ooerr).

As Si has probably mentioned in another thread. Malwarebytes Anit-Malware is shit hot. Give that a blast.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Also, how do you connect? Does the dongle come with a configuration utility? Because i remember having problems on my old Laptop with it's own config prog and removed everything to do with the wireless, turned on the hardware, letting windows find it, then browsed for just the driver on it's disk, therefore allowing windows to use the Zero Config utility instead.

Trojans and Spyware can cause all sorts of slow downs of PC's and irregular stopping of wifi/network/other problems.

In my rush this morning I didn't see that you were getting an error message.

I reckon Barry is right and windows and the Buffalo wireless program are conflicting (if you have it installed).
