Meanwhile Jon Lewis is stuck in Chester-le-Street carrying isotonic drinks for England's batsmen as they slaughter the Bangla Boys again. On current form he is not only Gloster's best bowler but also one of the better batsmen too.

What is the problem with Spearman? I read somewhere that it was "personal issues" not an injury.

I've heard nothing more than that. It could have been a bust up about money, like Barnett and Snape a couple of years back, but seeing as he played the one-dayer against Lancs I think someone in his family must be ill

he's going back soon though, he has had a month now and his highest score is 55 i believe. We have Smith now, so hopefuly he can hit some runs. If jayasuria weren't injured we would have him and smith in the same team

Because green wickets favour seamers too much and don't produce good cricket or good cricketers. The sub-standard quality of wickets during the 80s and 90s was one of the contributing factors to England's poor performance, thankfully pitches like this one are few and far between.

Excessively flat wickets do yes. But I can't remember any of them in England. Most English Test pitches are perfect - seamers on top day 1 and early day 2, batsmen's heaven day 2 and 3 and early day 4, spinners on top at the end of day 4 and 5.

Here is a Kent question. Which is the only football league team to be based in Kent?
