FF has been sluggish to say the least recently and task manager tells me that it is eating up this much memory:

With my limited knowledge it seems a tad high to me, and I have seen it go up to around 500k/ish?

Anybody........

These links should help you, it does seem quite high but I don't know how many extensions and plugins you have, how many tabs you have open etc:

I have seen Firefox on my PC running at 750,000k

It is very memory intensive but under normal circumstances it should be under 100,000k easily.

Make sure you have those crappy toolbars etc disabled as they use lots of memory, have you ran un up to date malwarebytes and antispyware detection too as trojans will use huge amounts of memory.

FF can go bonkers occasionally and take all of your CPU and/or memory. It tends to be if you are running Java applets or some other plug ins. Pretty random.

Close and open again usually does the trick.

OK, cheers.

I've done a malware search etc but it's still the same, I'll have a fiddle and think about using opera or something instead.

I am registered on that forum and yeah, those cockroaches are reet proper cunts.
