I'm assuming that it's a panic reaction to losing thousands of brand new contract customers but Orange are now trying to claim that you can only cancel your contract if the price increase is to your detriment (i.e. if you never exceed your monthly minutes allowance and never make calls to '08' numbers you're not eligible to cancel). Firstly, I don't agree with the logic as it is impossible to ascertain likely levels of usage in the future and secondly I just pointed out to the customer services guy that I made a single 0845 call 3 months ago and he backed down straight away.

It's in black and white in the terms and conditions. If they don't let you cancel then it's breach of contract.

It clearly is to your detriment, how could they know what your future use will be.

They've been trying it from day one if you read around on the net. Depends who you get on the phone. I think they may have tried that trick with my brother a bit too, he was feigning getting angry, it was quite to my amusement.

Well funnily enough I recently phoned up to cancel my Orange contract once it had run its course, but was talked out of it by a kind woman offering to effectively knock 66% off my monthly bill as well as throw in loads of extras too.
Very pleased.

anyone still searching for a new phone i would recomend these guys http://www.mobiles.co.uk/refer.aspx?refer=cust871395reason being is i've now received two Nokia 5800's and two PS3's. none of which need to be returned. reason being is that there are two people (myself being one) on my street with the same name just different address. first order got sent through to him so O2 cancelled but i still had the phone etc and so second fresh order went through correctly and received a second 5800 and PS3. happy days

Can someone help me? Im such a pleb when It comes to mobile - Ive always been with Vodaphone and I just upgrade with them every year without asking any questions but I want the new LG crystal phone and Vodaphone told me they are not released yet and "nowhere will have them till Oct"
But Ive just looked on Carphone warehouse and they have it in stock and on a better Vodaphone tariff than Im currently on???
I dont understand why Carphone Warehouse can do a better Vodaphone deal than Vodaphone??
Does that make sense?

Quite common for retailers to offer better deals than the provider themselves JFW. Also common to see better deals if you start a new contract rather than upgrade. It's all about the kick back Voda give for new contracts and how much of that is passed on to the user.
Also CPW do tend to provide unbranded/unlocked phones on occasion. Maybe they have some of these they are allowed to sell on to the Voda network, where as Voda are only going to sell Voda branded/customised stuff - which may not be available to them until October..
Best to ring CPW to check it is in stock and available on Voda
You have four choices as far as I can see (assuming you are out of contract):
1. Ring Voda back, tell them about the CPW deal and see if they will match. If not ask to speak to cancellations and obtain your PAC. Then chicken out and say you'll consider things if they don't do a deal. Mind you if they say they don't have the phone then I'm not sure they can match.
2. Cancel your Voda contract and take out a new one. You will lose your current phone number though. Also be doubly sure the tariff is acceptable as it may not be the same as your current one.
3. Move to another provider. Don't forget to check coverage and the tariff.
4. wait a month you impatient fashion whore!

so could I go with CPWH and keep my number?
P.S The real reason I want that LG phone is that I currently have an LG phone and it was so bloody difficult to learn to use I dont wanna start all over again Current LG phone now has no back as it was lost at V!!!

The cheapest 12 month deal is £35 a month though which you're probably not going to like
