Yes, I'm not comparing their abilities, more that they had a defined and noticeable style that they brought to the team.  When I watch a Wellens team, it seems, that team has a clear sense of what they are doing.  I could also argue the same with Cooper/Williams I suppose, so it's not always a recipe for success (although I could argue with my own argument and say it was the second season it fell apart, once people had worked it out).

Or that all the good players left after the PO final and we’re replaced with poorer players. That is a consistent theme for many lower league clubs who can’t afford to build upon a talented, but ultimately, unsuccessful squad.

I think we have a similar feel around the club as we had with Macari in 85, there is a buzz that the club have at last a decent young (ex Man Utd player) as manager, we won the championship of the bottom division after being blooded in the season before doing great in some games and less so in others as the new manager removed the deadwood from previous managers.

That season we made it through the play offs and were promoted for 2 successive seasons.

Back then everyone loved playing for Macari, the fans could see what he was trying to achieve and were coming back in droves again after our lowest ever league position (again very similar).

Both are shrewd in interviews and give little away but Macari always had a smile on his face whereas Wellens is far more dour.

I do see many similarities, although Macaris fitness regime and style of football was not as entertaining it got a strong of great results, Wellens style is exciting but we still need to work on the defence a bit, the future on the pitch looks bright again at Swindon, long may it last.

He clearly had talent, otherwise Citeh wouldn't have signed him. At 26 with 55 games under his belt it can't just be fitness that's holding him back.

The obsession with an ill-advised Tweet from years ago is almost as bad as the tweet itself.

Another reminder of being so glad thay Social Media wasnt a thing when I was growing up.

Only 18 of which games have been above non-league level.

In terms of holding him back I wonder whether its always ben a sad case of his bobby big bollocks.

Indeed. If anything, some degree of sympathy that a promising career didn't work out as hoped might be a more humane response than the great delight in schadenfreude (pretty confident I've not spelled that right)

Agreed.

He might be a nobhead for all I know but he was written off the moment he responded to a message designed to provoke a 20 year old who had the nerve to join Manchester City with Swindon receiving a fee. It was six years ago.

He had life laid on a fucking platter and fucked it up through arrogance.
