He was also asked if the current owner had the resources to get the Club to the Championship in, say, a 3 year period.

Brown answered without even a nano-second of hesitation "Yes, 100%"...that's not been mentioned for some reason  Hmmm

What did you expect him to say?
No manager is going to say "nah, no fucking chance" - big, small or average budget.

I read the Linganzi contract offer reduction more as a pointer that we don't want him here. Tactical contracts offers. Offer him a crap deal, then hopes his agent finds him a better deal, at say Stevenage. They sign him because his agent sells him a the next Miguel Comminges...

If we didn't want him here, we wouldn't be offering him a deal, simple as that.

Not true Chang. Often in many industries a contractual "offer" is made but it is with the expectation of a decline. Player doesn't accept reduced terms, existing contract expires...they become OOC.....it's not hard to understand that.

Also, Brown was offered a striker on loan from a south coast Championship club. Can’t think of one myself.

That's true of course. I just don't think he would have answered in such an unqualified and emphatic manor if he had not believed it to have been the case. Whereas Flitcroft was a bullshit merchant of the highest order I don't think Brown is - just my subjective opinion which could be way off the mark. To that end though, I thought his answer was worthy of comment as a counter to the earlier 'slashed budget' remark.

Ah, right. Well I'm going to disregard his 'slashed budget' remark just as easily, then!

*Edit: Actually, I'm going to go one-step further and do what a lot of people do, which is focus on the bit I like and pretend the rest just doesn't exist. Which then means I get to interpret it as we are being bankrolled to be in the Championship as soon as possible. Woo hoo.

I think there's an important point in this argument.   Last season, it emerged think it was Posh who did the digging that we had the 5th highest budget in Div 4, when Flitters flitted we were 7th about 3 or 4 points off 5th, so a little under par but not much.  Flitters was widely considered to be doing a poor job on here and a majority wanted him sacked around Christmas. There were a few of us who tought he was doing OK.

Now if PB is in receipt of a reduced budget, what is the perception of what he should be achieving?  It is, of course, entirely possible that our opponents will also be reducing their budgets, squad building dealings should give us a clue.

As regards the Championship comment, having the resources and being willing and able to use the resources, are completely different. The danger is in the perception of where we are as a club atm, and what fans expect.

As flippant as your comment comes across, you just may have inadvertently put an imaginary wager on a rank outsider instead of the favourite by mistake and bagged a winner.....

Did PB not say that he had an unnamed investor with him at the first meeting? Which ties in nicely with his purchase of the ground and development of the Highworth training facility with money Power clearly doesn’t have.

I find it hard to believe that LP wouldn’t have introduced this investor by name, plausible but if I was PB i’d Want to know who I was going to be working for or dealing with. After all why have this man there in the first place. Additionally we all agree that LP is not going to make any money in L2, likely a loss. Make money in L1 but not much, Championship is the entry level to the casino and the PL is beating the house in Monte Carlo.

PB if he plays his cards right has a unique opportunity to play at this casino in Championship terms. There are other teams in England with this potential and he has landed a chance at one of them. With his experience and a bit of luck we may just be in the Championship in three years.

Regarding this as yet ‘unamed’ Investor chappie. The first phase of cash injection would be buying the CG and maybe some basic investment at Highworth. More money into the clubs revenue stream and infrastructure as we progress up the league but I’m struggling to see much being spent on the ground development until we get to the Championship and that I guess would be the Banks development first then the Townend purely because the Bank needs a roof and to maximise the away support that would invariably follow their teams. After all it would reflect badly on the clubs if say AV came down one Saturday in January and packed out both the away section of the Arkells and the bank in weather most of us would think twice about attending under cover even driving from say west Swindon.

I think he got his leagues mixed up as the only South coast club outside of the Premiership is Pompey who are looking to offload a lot of players this Summer.

Pompey have just signed a winger/striker from Ireland for £300k so they need to let go of a few to balance the books.

They are also after Eisa from Cheltnumb but aren't willing to pay the £1m+ fee for him.

Phil does get his leagues mixed up which is a worry.

One thing I thought interesting was that PB said, when he met Power in London to discuss the job, Power had an unnamed business partner with him who PB said was going to be a future investor in Power's businesses, although he couldn't confirm if that included STFC.

Will mainly be investing in his South Seas hidden island submarine base project

Or just assumed Southampton were going to be relegated and forgot to readjust?

One is a fact, on is opinion. You are usually quite quick to moan about (negative) speculation and promote sticking to facts..
