I'll be interested to see if he carries on playing the central defender role he's been occupying for the last year or two

According to the Pompey forum they are crying out for a decent right back or defensive midfield, he has filled in at the latter but I think it will be right back he fills in at when not injured.

Decent move; it would have shown a huge lack of ambition on Thompson's part if he remained here, as happy as I would have been.

Good luck to Nathan Thompson. A class act on and off the pitch. Hope his career progresses. Totally committed to the cause last season, sometimes however to his own and ultimately the team's detriment. Will miss his falling over when barely nudged by an opponent, 95% of refs fell for it, although I remember him getting sent off at Yeovil for  picking the ball up after being "pushed". Some of his runs through the middle were superb and real shame his stfc career ended with him in charge of a relegation team.

Martin Ling appointed director of football at Orient.

I wish him the very very best.

Certainly didn't expect to see that. Feel bad that when I saw the picture of Ling on the Adver site before reading the headline, I thought it was going to be bad news.

No, I thought he had stepped away from football.

I guess the pressures of being a DoF vs being a manager are much less so hopefully the stresses won't intrude too much into his health.

Time will tell but its a very brave move given his mental health issues and I am sure that we all hope that there isn't a very different headline in a few months time.

If Lingy wants any advice on how to be an effective D o F, he could chat to his old team mate Nicky Hammond.

Nicky is now titled Technical Director at WBA... after all those years at Reading where he was credited with a large part of their rise.

If Sherwood is anything to go by DOF does precisely fuck all so Lingy should be fine.

Liked and admired Nathan Thompson. One of my favourite Town players over the last 10 years. Watching him playing sweeper in our play-off final season was a joy.  Some of the best football I've seen at the County Ground in my supporting tenure.
