There were two reasons Charlie went cheap.

- History of injuries.
- His contract was expiring in the summer.

Southampton got a good deal. A player is only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. Doesn't necessarily mean they are a better or worse player.

His contract yes but not injuries. That's a bit of a myth

I wasn't really commenting on anything other than the madness of someone apparently willing to pay 8m for a older, less prolific and frankly not as good a striker.

Southampton have themselves the deal of the year.

That's an odd one. He hasn't played a game for nearly 18 months, and retired to run an ice-cream cart in Barnsley with his wife. Maybe there was a flaw in the business plan.

Talk about living the dream.

His wife had to find a new career after she lost her job as a journalist because of plagiarism.
Perhaps ice cream is not the place for a dodgy journalist.

Nah, she just needed to do something more unusual - ice cream is a bit vanilla.

There are hundreds and thousands of rumours going around as to the reason.
