They have to have actually been good for us though. Once they left you never heard of them again. Tuomela fits 1 of the 2 criteria.

I was at that game as well btw. Juan Cobian played at right back, Mark Robertson (not Robinson) played in midfield and some some bloke Williams scored two goals. It was a good game actually, we won 3-2.

You need to define your criteria more clearly OST.....as I understand it you're after players who played well for us for the minimum of a season and preferably more....were rated here, got a seemingly decent move but for whatever reason didn't do much afterwards.  So you can't have Steve Foley, Chris Kamara or Ray MacHale.....I'd be tempted by Alan Mayes.

Sam Parkin is the perfect example Reg. Had an absolute purple patch with us which, when you look back was without doubt the best spell of his career.

11 goals before he came to us, 67 goals for us then 33 goals in the remainder of his career spread over 8 lower league or Scottish clubs.

Paynter is another classic example. Had a great spell with us (45 in 122), seemingly got a fantastic move to Leeds and has done bugger all since (16 goals in 4 and a bit seasons). So those are the criteria really.

Looking at Foley, he went on to play a fair few games for Stoke after us so that was erroneous on my part. I've not included Kamara or McHale any way.

Mayes - I don't know. Obviously he had a great initial spell here, went to Chelsea and actually had a respectable scoring record there (19 in 66 according to Wiki) then came back and did well again. After that he was just winding down his career really.

Definitely. Didn't know about the lion taming bit  Huh?

Edit: The only reference I can see to this on t'interweb is on Wikipedia which does not fill me with confidence. I'd love it to be true though.

I was thinking out loud with Kammy and MacHale....you need some midfielders in your XI, Matt Heywood a definite contender for the back 4.

Re. midfielders - Some one came up with Grant Smith who is a definite contender. According to Wikipedia he made 5 appearances (0 goals) for North Queensland Fury no less, in 2009.

Absolutely, he looked totally capable of playing at a higher level when with off but his career is going to fade out.

Fuck me....that's a great midfield...Foley left his foot in too.  Something we lack a bit this season....a ball winner to give the creative guys the ammunition..
