Just been reading Akinfenwa's autobiography...

Akinfenwa was released by Watford as a youngster by Dave Hockaday whose opinion was that he might make it as a pro but not at top level. Suffice to say he is not a Hockaday fan!

I thought you were going to say he released for the old chestnut of thinking he would not grow big enough!

Just been reading Akinfenwa's autobiography and Paul Sturrock wanted to sign him but he failed the medical due to a badly broken leg the previous season which took a long time to heal.

Also,

Akinfenwa was released by Watford as a youngster by Dave Hockaday whose opinion was that he might make it as a pro but not at top level. Suffice to say he is not a Hockaday fan!

In fairness, Hockaday was correct in his assessment of Akinfenwa.

Played v Crawley last night, ddin't score but Stags won. Apparently missed a decent chance, but prob a bit rusty.

Good that Crawley lost as it keeps them 4 below us and used up their game in hand, they're one of those who should be a bit worried as although they win the odd one, they lose a lot.  Prob why they want to sign Rose, the sort of Div 4 journeyman who might just give them the 6 or so wins they'll need to stay up.

I don't care if we finish above or below Crawley tbh.

top 7 is all that matters in a season.

What happens with the other sides in Div 4 is of some interest to me.... obviously not as important as what we're doing, but for example Crawley have a fairly wretched away record and they've yet to come here, so it should be an opportunity to win.   Further as we operate in the same sort of market for players, it's interesting to see if we can attract them rather than not.

Also, I wouldn't be averse to losing the baggage handlers next season, rather than some of the other likely drop battlers.

Derby fans singing the ever-tedious "he's one of our own" song about Bogle. Hhmm
