I would imagine that that news was a precursor to the announcement today as it was released just prior to the press announcement - we will have to wait and see what the press release is...

Shirtliff?
Taylor?
Robinson?
Kit?
A N Other?

Just watched the video interview with Budgie on the Official Site.He comes accross as being very
positive about his new role and relishing the challenges that it'll bring. He even seems to have recruited
a couple of new youngsters already, which he hopes to announce in the next few weeks!

I always thought that this area was one of Budgie's strengths. He's going to be doing a lot of travelling
in this country and abroad and hopes to attend youth team tournaments. He'll work closely with Zippy
and the under 16's and also a couple of days a week with Danny and the 1st team,as well as manage
the Reserves.Busy Guy!

His new role wasn't a surprise to him and the Board and Danny had been looking at this area to improve.
Budgie felt that since Sturrock's departure,we needed to improve on this area of youth development.

In all seriousness, announcing this at a press conference rather than just knocking out a statement announcing "New role for Byrne" is a signal as to how much importance the club attaches to this development role. And rightly so, Fitton's words on the importance of this kind of role in enabling smaller clubs to properly be able to develop their own talent (rather than selling on kids at the first opportunity or losing them outright) are spot on IMO. This kind of thing is going to be key in how lower league clubs (ie pretty much all of the FL) survive and prosper in the next few years. It's an important role and the club have signalled that by announcing it with all the bells and whistles. And FWIW I think Dave Byrne will be excellent at it.

Must admit it's good PR for DB, good for prestige, and morale.

I don't see Shaun Taylor coming to us as a coach, but I do see him moving into a coaching role at Exeter as he still lives 4 miles outside of Exeter and runs his own kids coaching course down in Devon.

I can't see him moving to Swindon when he has it pretty nice down here, and the Exeter fans also see him as an ex hero of theirs.

Exeter just announced a new first team coach, and it wasn't Shaun !

The facial expression Dave Byrne is pulling on the picture on the OS is unsettling to say the least
