£12 million? That's a bit steep.

You forget, it's Manchester City. They will be the Chelsea of 2004 - without a league title.

Not arguing with thatm but it sort of conflicts with his 'ambitious' reasons for wanting to leave last year - especially by joining a European-free club. I'd be very suprised if Manchester City passed Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United next season.

Man City have already said they will be very active in the transfer market,I can certainly see Arsenal being caught.

Word was that he was getting stupid £'s a week, he'd been promised that he will play all games he is fit for next season and they've shown him the list of players they intend on signing this summer. I guess Benitez's squad rotation didn't seem so appealing to him and I doubt he got past the £'s per week

Surely that's just like opening up player search on Football Manager and sorting by value?

It seems like a sideways, if not backwards, step for him, but for the huge amounts of money. Hardly a surprise though - "top footballer in moving clubs for financial gain shock".

Or "Man moves to better paid job" shock. I don't see why footballers are expected to live by different standards. It'd be nice if they did and all, but I don't see why everyone gets all moralistic about it.

I wasn't trying to moralise about footballers (although it did sound like it!) - was trying to make your point. Although there is an argument that the different between a wage at Villa and at Man City, while a big one, can't alter your life too much. After all, what can't you buy on £40,000 a week. Bet he's never been refused a credit card!
