I haven't really been affected negatively really. The only thing thats made a difference for me is the cheaper prices everywhere.

I wish I was an undergraduate student right now.

I'm sick of being an undergrad. I just want it over now. Mind you, I suppose I ought to appreciate where I am currently, as in the short term recession only has positive influences for me - petrol prices, etc.

A Swindon fire station moving to Portsmouth? I hope you have fast fire engines.

My full time job is answering 999 calls for the fire service. On my days off i am a retained firefighter (ie on call). I work in Oxford anyhow!

No job is really 100% safe. There's only one guaranteed profession on this earth and that's Undertaking.

My work should be unaffected cars are still going to crash and breakdown in a rescession, probably more so.Weve also landed 2 pretty big contracts increasing our area (I might have to start doing actuall work though)My boss seems to have no trouble buying new kit as well so I assume he can still get credit.

Im still worried though, mostly because im middle aged with no skills or qualifications and huge debt.If I lose this job i'llstruggle to find another.

Well that was depressing. Signing away a career you've worked for since the age of twelve for xx grand. It's Birdy I feel sorry for, relocated from Abingdon and I've let her down.

I'm really struggling with this.

On the plus side I bought a jiffy bag to post DRS' dvd.

Let's all have a disco  Sad

Not sure about my job yet. I reckon they'll get rid of half us in the near future probably the end of this month or start of next. Luckily I do not have bills to pay so financially I have not really been badly affected like others have been and could cope. With jobs pretty much drying up by the day and the doll queue growing it's going to be very hard to find a new job for anyone that does get bad news though. There seems to be no signs of the downturn ending anytime soon either. Rough times ahead I feel.

That sucks mate (I know that doesnt quite cover it). And i'm sure she won't feel let down, it can't be avoided and it's just a massive shitter.

Hope it all works itself out okay for you both, i'm sure it'll all be okay and you'll continue to be happy soon enough.

Interesting to read how people are being affected…

I’m incredibly lucky in that the old mortgage payments have gone down to what I’d spend on a (very) heavy weekend out.

The old job is safe as houses and the job market over here remains pretty good.  I think it’s about 4% unemployment rate although quite a few people have been affected by what’s going on in the wider world particularly the financial and retail sectors.  That said being offshore has its advantages and there are still a lot of vacancies about.

Only slight needle I that I have an apartment purchased off plan due to complete next year and while the housing market remains pretty good (up 4% last month) I doubt I’ll be able to shift it as quick for a return.  That said I’ll have no problems renting it out and have my backside covered in a worse case scenario.

If anyone fancies relocating  I charge a bottle of Vodka for my services!
