Davide Astori the Fiorentina and Italian international died in his sleep last night at 31 years old. Crazy.

Sir Roger Bannister

The original pace setter. Pioneer in running and set the bar for athletes in the future.

People have to do what has not been done before, even against all the odds, even with the world doubting you. It is by doing this you inspire the next generation of people to go even further and do the impossible once more.

True gent, so my Grandfather said. RIP

He had a distinguished medical career too, and was my neurology consultant back in the 70s when I was suffering with epilepsy. I guess I met him about 8 times over 2-3 years. Always had time to talk despite the fact that I was incredibly nervous in his presence. RIP.

Not many people I admire but he was one of them. Quite an unconventional person but the wind up radio - genius.

Used to have a slot on the Big Breakfast, which is how I knew of him!

Didn't realise he was close to making the Olympics in swimming too.
