Myself and a work colleague (who is black) also had that very same conversation this morning and he was concerned that it does see to be more frequent in black athletes than white. Muamba, Foe, Benitez and now Ehiogu spring to mind immediately.

I am sure I read somewhere that research was being done after the Muamba incident, although was that jut that existing players were going to be screened and I assume retired players/coaching staff were not included?

Shocking news.  He was just a few weeks older than me...and way fitter.  RIP.

Makes you realise that maybe we all need to live in the moment a little more.

Agreed, I'm not much younger than Ugo Ehiogu myself and thinking about mortality seems to be something that creeps up on you in your 40's and plays upon your mind, particularly as in my case I'm now attending more funerals now than weddings.  Sad

Watched a bit of villa around 98 - 99 when they had John Gregory in charge. He was part of that side in a back 3 alongside Gareth Southgate and a young Gareth Barry. Very good player in a side that could have won the league really. 44 is no age to die.

Very sad.

I seem to recall he got a red card at the CG in the Prem season?

No mate you are mistaken, he only played against us twice both in that season and no not sent off in either game.

No age at all to pass away, quite shocking for someone so fit and outwardly healthy.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, the fact he's been campaigning to be allowed to die for nearly 20 years makes me in some ways glad the fucker had to wait.

Good riddance.

Ah that's a shame. I saw Cornell with Audioslave and on a solo tour and enjoyed both gigs thoroughly.
