Not all bad tho'. He represented African-American clients in civil rights cases. Phelps received a law degree from Washburn University and opened his own law firm, called Phelps Chartered. He took on racial discrimination cases, and represented two female professors in a gender discrimination case. He received awards from the NAACP, and made up a third of Kansas’s docket for civil rights cases.

No offence lads, but you making a point at almost enjoying his death puts you in a similar place to them enjoying the death of others. Never get that kind of mentality.

No skin off my nose, but can't agree with it.

From Twitter

'I'm going to protest WBC founder Fred Phelps' funeral by attending and behaving in a dignified, respectful manner.' Russell Brand.

Spot on.

That would depend, Jan, on whether you believe someone deserves a taste of their own medicine, or whether you should appeal to some sort of decency within them by showing them you won't be moved to anger.  In the end I don't think it matters which, neither will help because despite what Gandhi believed, some people have no decency.

Also, I know no one has articulated this here, but I hate the idea that you shouldn't speak ill of the dead, as if death absolves you of all blame for the actions of your life.

I'm going to have to watch Stewart Lee make up things that Russell Brand has said, to make me feel better.

Sorry Jan, but that is nonsense.

Phelps was nothing but pure evil who hurt other people that had never done a thing wrong to him. Picketing the funerals of dead soldiers and telling the parents it's their fault, it's difficult to think of much worse.

The world is better off without people like him. I don't mean to say that as a sound-byte people often say when somebody dies: I mean the world is literally better off without the likes of him in it and I am, literally, pleased that he is no longer on this planet because the alternative is that he is still on the planet spreading his hatred.

It's just unfortunate that he has left behind a legacy.

And very good on Russell Brand but why is he attending the funeral at all?
