Nice to see that Greer is now staying until the end of the season - a move made possible by funds from the Red Army Fund.

Well done all that have donated.

Link for those too lazy to find one.

I'm sure he'll be better value than Lonergan or Proctor.

I'm sure he will....he is tried and tested

The RAF will now (hopefully) be responsible for a tighter defence unit.

Why has the RAF fund been used for this?

Just out of interest.

Because they're bored of the Trust reminding them it exists?

The fund's there to improve the playing squad, with the proviso that it should be above and beyond the regular playing budget. So so long as they'd already run through the normal playing budget (which is pretty likely), I don't think you could argue the point that Greer improves the playing squad.

Cheers for the explanation Paul, no doubt Greer improves the squad.  Was just thinking why did the board need to use this money?  That's all.

As I'm no longer on the Trust board, I wasn't party to the decision so I have no axe to grind here other than as someone who donates to the RAF by s/o like anyone else. And in that regard, I'm very happy for the money to be used like this, seems to me to meet the objectives.

In terms of did the board NEED to use this money? No, probably not, in that I'm sure if the RAF wasn't there, they could have found the money between them for a player who's been a key part of turning our season round. But the fund's there to help fund improvements to the playing squad - if it's not going to get used for helping sign a player like Greer, then what can it be used for? (And I know you weren't arguing that Jan, just answering the general point). If that then frees up the board's cash to be used elsewhere or even just demonstrates to them that it's not a one-way street, with fans constantly demanding "Get your chequebook out Fitton", then that's all to the good. Especially if it makes them more disposed to get their chequebooks out when there are more sizable amounts to be underwritten!

As you say Paul, I wasn't contesting the decision, I was hoping someone would provide a decent explanation, and you certainly have.

The RAF isn't there to question the club on have you not got the money yourself, why should we pay his wages it is there to help the manager wiht his playing budget

As Mr D pointed out it has been used to keep a player for the next few months who he proved a more than useful addition to the squad - at least this time people could see in advance what their money was going to be used for.
