I also like your picture, Dave Syrett scored in the first game i ever went to, Shrewsbury at home in April 76, not that i can remember.

Well done on winning.

Never seen that Leefer, wouldn't mind though, i'll have a look on you-tube.

What happened to him in the end, any ideas? Did he finish his career at Mansfield or go elsewhere?

Think he did Bedford...think you can see the goals on a stags link...with Hoddles late equaliser also.

Got this off the Swindon-town-FC.co.uk

SWINDON TOWN
Mansfield Town
Walsall
Peterborough United
Northampton Town
Salisbury
Brackley Town

He finished his total football career at a little village team in Wiltshire called Heytesbury who play in the Trowbridge league - Junior/Amateur footy.
My brother played (as i did) for nearby Stockton and Codford in the Salisbury league and the rivalry was fierce as Heytesbury in those days was the Man United of the wylye valley.
Big brother broke his nose in a clash of heads.
I later lived opposite Dave when i lived in Warminster and he used to pop over alot and borrow stuff etc etc.
He worked with my old man at Warminster School.
He also lent me a vhs match of the day video from a game where he scored a hattrick against Terry Venebles Crystal Palace.....that was good vieing.
Dave always suffered with his back and told me that when he played he regularly had cortosone injections in his back, which in time fucked him up and he has had a few operations since.
Dave tends to follow Saints with his daughters but his missus is ardent Swindon and i have bumped into him at odd matches....the last being the away game at Bournemouth in the Div 2 promo season.
He also told me that whilst he was at Swindon he was lined up to join Plymouth...he travelled with the manager to meet but Plymouth changed their mind over the fee and the manager stood up and walked out taking Dave with him....how times change!

Dave now works at a public school in Salisbury.

A very nice bloke he is too!!!

Bit before my time as i started to 'follow' the town halfway through the record points Macari season.
First game i saw was Town v Exeter boxing day 1979...Town lost 3-2.....before the magic roundabout!

We were having a great season untill the Exeter setback...because of the cup runs we ended the season with three away games in hand and had to win all three i think...won at Brentford with a Mayes winner,we had about 5000 fans there, brilliant, then onto Sheff Wednesday ware we lost and the promotion dream was over...think we lost got hammered 6-2 in our final match...can remember Swansea away on the boxing day, took over 4000 ther and was the only team to win there...they won the league, got to the semis of the lge cup,and was 7 mins away from the fa cup quarter final..losing in a replay at Spurs....the 4-3 win over a great rsenal team is the best match ive ever seen.

I still am,good goal chalked off..2 good penalty appeals turned down, there was talk of the lge replaying that match after they had seen the refs performance....he was and still is the worst and crooked ref i ever saw.

Is it matchworn? It would be difficult to tell to be honest though....
