Anything over 7MP, 4x Zoom is the minimum right now. Should be able to pick something with those specs up for about a ton. I'm a Canon fan, but anything made by Nikon, Fuji, Sony or Panasonic should be top notch quality wise.

I'm looking to get a new one. Probably get one of those Lumix. Going to buy it at the airport on the way to Cuba though because it works out cheaper then the high street or even t'internet.

I went on safari to Kenya last year, & wanted a Camera that had a good optical zoom, & image stabilisation, but was basically a point & shoot. I found the Panasonic Lumix fitted the bill perfectly. The one I got had 5 mp, 7 x optical, but has now been superceeded by a more mega pixels model.
The photo's were great, & I'd buy again.
