I was worried that the switch might be a double bluff. A decoy for the light coming on fully when another secret switch is closed and the door is shut.

I think that the switch maybe a red herring.

We all think that when the door is closed then the switch is depressed causing the circuit to be broken.

However maybe the Fridge makers have struck a deal with the electric company to make us THINK that the light goes off but really it doesn't, therefore the light stays on meaning that our leccy bills are higher. Making more profit for the leccy chaps whom then pass on a cut to the fridge makers.

The plot thickens.

Why not just drill a "spy" hole, (not a glory hole), through the door on your fridge, then you can see the light go off as you close it.  Works a treat I can tell you.

HMmmm, at the risk of having the piss ripped out of me, why not just push the switch on the side of the door in?

The switch might turn the light off when the door is open. But when the door is closed another mechanism kicks in to turn the light back on again.

It's a conspiracy I tell thee.

Get one of them mini digital video cameras. Put it in the fridge. Close the door. Wait 5 minutes. Get it out. Watch the video. See if it goes dark.

God I wish I hadn't started this.

Now you mention it my current fridge light bulb needs replacing, never really thought about changing it though.

So my fridge light is now off when the door is both open and closed, FREAKY.

How do you know the switch isn't broken and it's off when the door is open and on when closed?

I don't know, when was the last time you had to change a fridge lightbulb?

Is there a punchline coming for this?

You see, this whole fridge light on or off when the door is closed is not as simple as it may seem.
