Just watched Stan and Ollie.

Brilliantly acted by Coogan and Reilly.

Very slow, gentle and quite emotional at the end, well worth a watch if you like Laurel & Hardy, I enjoyed it.

I watched the trailer, and didn't twig who either actor was until 10 seconds from the end.

Coogan is a great actor, on the quiet (no pun).

Agree though, Laurel & Hardy gives the basis for many genius comedic sketches since, with clever timing and choreography. Something the likes of the Two Ronnies took and expanded on greatly in a more recent era. To a certain extent, the Chuckle Brothers were good (albeit underrated) at this too, yet ironically were never taken seriously enough to be considered "funny".

People can say what they like about slapstick, and I'm not it's biggest fan but it will always be an integral building block to comedy and I'm sure you (and some others here) know that much more than I.

That is an indicator for great film. No preconceived ideas about how the film may be delivered or perceived. I understand the need in film for "advertising" their stars but I kind of wish they didn't. We may less jump on the hype of a particular film because of who it is written, directed and starring, and unearth some great performances from films considered "lesser".

The make up and voices of both are absolutely spot on.

I have never been a fan of Coogan but his performance is excellent.

I saw the Chuckle brothers 2 or 3 years back. For family entertainment they were smutty fuckers for sure. Funny though

Had a couple days at home, watched:

IO (Netflix) - Dull.

Split (Prime) - M Night shmamalangadingdond - average

The founder (prime) - about the rise of the McDonalds franchise. I found it really good, I mean on the face of it, it sounds dull. But it wasn't. And as I had no idea how it came about it was fascinating. Can't really say any more because if you know the story, it'll be pointless watching it!

Watched "The Favourite" after hearing all the hype, also as I Quite enjoy Olivia Colman normally.

Pretty shit IMO mostly about Queen Ann being a lesbian and the favourite is a battle between her 2 lesbian lovers as to who is the queens favourite for a bit of "tongue action" (as the film itself calls it).

Massively over rated by critics and a waste of nearly 2 hours watching with a rubbish ending.

Watched 'Roma' on Netflix over the weekend after reading all the good reviews.

I'm sure the cinematography etc was pretty stunning if you like that kind of thing,(Cuaron does do a very good job of making you feel like you are in 1970 Mexico) but I found it really boring. It won 4 Baftas though last night, so what do I know?

My wife gave it exactly the same review as that.
