... scholarship deal:

Quote
TEENAGE goal keeper Calum Antell has been offered a two-year scholarship at Swindon Town.

Last year we reported on Calum signing to Swindon but the 15-year-old sustained a bad thigh injury which meant he had to prove his fitness and get back on the field before they would consider him for a scholarship.

Calum overcame this and played three games which included having a superb game against Plymouth, winning 4-0.

He has travelled the 180-mile round trip two or three times a week for the last year which showed Swindon the commitment they were after.

Calum started his football career with Waunlwyd under nines as a striker, he played with the club to under 14s level and this included his first season as a goalkeeper.

He then started training with Paul Colbourne who worked and developed Calum through the next two seasons.

Calum then switched and played for Cwm under 16s in the Gwent league, he then signed for Swindon Town at the end of last season.

Calum then went to the Milk Cup with Swindon in Northern Ireland last summer where he played three games and had two clean sheets against foreign opposition, he then played in the final against Watford where Swindon Town won on penalties.

Calum has played against Swansea, Bristol, Bournemouth and Plymouth this season, he played numerous times for the under 18s and also for the reserves.

Last Thursday Calum was offered a two-year scholarship with Swindon. He is moving to the area in six weeks after taking his GCSEs and can look forward to playing against Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton and other Premiership clubs in the summer.

He would like to thank all his previous clubs for helping him get where he is today and his school Glyncoed for releasing him to train with the first team. He says he has made a lot of friends on the way and he will look forward to seeing them again in the future.
