Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but what did people make of what Holloway said about Smith’s situation? Apparent Smith said “I want a better club Gaffer”. Doesn’t sound promising!

Full quote “ We've spent all our money, and I can't give Harry any more money at the moment. I've sat down with him and asked him, and he went, 'I want to get a better team, gaffer.' He's totally on board with where we are. I have got no problem with him.”

Morshead also tweeted “Holloway was intimating that Smith wants to see Swindon become a better club, not that he wants to move to a better club.” - so i think there’s no issue just a quote taken out of context.

Yeah, but the club wanted it verbatim so there would be no misunderstandings!

Holloway telling Smith he can’t give him more money yet there’s lots of interest from other clubs surely proving his worth….Why stay when you need to earn as much as possible at his age and the manager could leave anytime.

He was not suggesting for a second that Smith wanted to move on - the exact opposite.

He might be able to make lost wages up as a free agent with a signing on bonus?

Stay. Increase stock (small gamble) and see.

Also, we only know Cambridge and Denmark have called. Moving abroad is massive and moving to Cambridge should need to make it worthwhile but was a non starter given the transfer amounts.

Just a thought. I don't know. I think we should be happy with Smith's loyalty/belief in Holloway

He got homesick at Exeter City so i’d imagine Denmark never really appealed.

This was how I interpreted it too.

Oh he is 100% but I would rather than than have a wet lettuce as manager like Luke Williams or Mark kennedy.

I hope that’s the case. The wording was a bit strange and then he immediately went on to discuss the Isak situation which made me wonder.

If you listen to the interview, Holloway tries to say that Smith told Holloway that he wanted Holloway to spend money on getting a better team around Smith, rather than increasing Smith’s wages.
