Few murmurings on the Gas forum that they may be about to cancel Bennett’s contract by mutual consent.

We still wouldn’t be able to sign him. Contracts have to be cancelled before the deadline to be able to move on a free transfer.

With Rose back, we’ve got five players for two spots. That’s ignoring Diagouraga, McGilp and youth teamers like the ginger Ray Parlour lookalike.

Of those 5:

May hasn’t looked up to it
Rose has hardly been fit since he signed
Doughty missed huge chunks of last season

Don’t see the issue myself - means we’ve got 4 competent, tried and tested central midfielders which should see us in a good position if/when we start getting injuries/suspension/loss of form - and means we don’t have to rely on May (not looked too great so far), Diagoraga (past it) or Mcgilp (unproven)

5 mins ago people were correctly concerned about the lack of depth on the bench!

That problem is now solved

Grant's loan is only until January isn't it?

Maybe its with a view to a perm, or we have

Agree with most of your points, however still a bit surprised we prioritised central mid over a couple of other areas.

Still, we will still be stronger for it squad wise, so bring it on.

Would we be able to sign him then if he had his contract cancelled by MC? Assuming he then fell into the free agent bracket?

As above, only if it was done by yesterday's deadline.

Yeah the only benefit for Rovers would be that he was off their wage bill, but they would still have to pay him up for the rest of his contract, so no benefit to them unless the contract payment was considerably less than he is due.

No benefit to Bennett as he can't sign for another club until January (excluding Conference sides) so he will be out of a job with no wage and no games until January.

The same applies to Toums.

I like May, that tackle on Woolery when he was breaking was superb.

First tackle I think he has completed in a Town shirt, unfortunately!

Swansea fans seem to have a high regard of the new keeper.

Not qute sure how you can come to this conclusion? replace an experienced keeper as first choice when you have zero first team games under your belt so far. Hes been on the bench last season for them 14 times but never played a minute of first team football.

Looks like Luke McCormick is their GK, but he is 36 now, so you'd like to think Benda would be seen as 1st choice

36 isn't that old for a keeper anyway.

There's a lot of GK talent and depth in u23s football bottom end of the Prem and top end of the Championship (basically any club playing in PL2) - lads in their early 20 who are very much ready for League football but can't get in.

Ramsdale at Bournemouth last year went on loan to AFC Wimbledon in Jan, got player of the year and is now first choice. Same with Roos at Derby.

I've no idea about Benda, but 21 next month, 4 inches taller than LMc, decent pedigree... He'll be number 1 within weeks.

Barry Roache on Saturday in goal for Morecambe was 37, most 1st choice keepers in thie league are well over 30 TBH with only a few exceptions. Carlisle, Cheltenham, Orient, Grimsby, Crawley, Port Vale etc all 1st choice keepers well over 30.
