Wellens has admitted he is not close to being able to sign a striker before the Exeter game.

Not a rumour, more of a fact, and not a particularly positive one at that!

Bit of a concern as to who we will play up front, is there anyone in the youth team that may be able to step up for a game or 2 ?

Just lob Ballard up there, straight out of the Andy King book of tactics.

Might not be a bad idea. Doesn't give away our formation to the oppo, people take it in turns to be striker, and the defence doesn't know who to mark. Like it.

Think you'd go for Broadbent first if we were putting a lump up there, Akinfenwa-esque.

Yes....followed by a dire load of shit at Sheffield United without a shot on goal.

I'd give Woolery the chance upfront with Doughty pushed further up and slot someone into midfield.  Certainly away where our strength is the counter anyway.  That gets us through Exeter and a chance to find a better solution.  Doughty, Anderson, Isgrove and Woolery, all released to counter should be effective in stretching them.  It also releases Doughty a bit - he was getting run around at times by Carlisle and Lyden is good, but maybe away having someone else with Doughty and Lyden will fill the gaps when Doughty doesn't track a runner or stop someone sliding past him with ease.

Nicky Law makes Exeter tick in midfield so having extra bodies in midfield makes sense to counter that threat.

That or go 3-5-2, slot Ballard into defence and have a threat for set pieces.  Woolery and Isgrove taking the front two places with Anderson behind them and let the two full backs take the wings, but that probably disrupts things a little too much.

This for me is the way to go. Then only concern is that the option to slot into midfield alongside Lyden is May, who hasn't shown much so far. He may better alongside a DM, because he certainly isn't one himself.

If my memory is accurate, Mildenhall made his debut as an emergency forward (in the days when we could only name 3 subs and most people used to make one of them a keeper.
I am not suggesting we put Will Henry up front however!

Not a wholly serious suggestion, but is Noel Hunt registered as a player? Power confirmed when he was appointed that he had registered as a player as well last year?

Wiki seems to suggest he got 3 in 8 last season for Waterford.

No no no. Ballard plays for Arsenal so must be technically good. van der Linden style.
