Having watched him today D'Ath is not a holding midfielder, hes a box to box player.

Wouldn't a box to box midfielder be preferable to a holding midfielder?
Able to do the defensive stuff and get forward as well.

I know that the game has changed over the years but the obsession with holding midfield has created a niche for players who, at this level, just don't have the all round game of say a Kamara or a McHale for example.
Carroll is a classic example of this.

I think it’s because the disciplined holding midfielder is more necessary these days because of the increased speed of transition from defence to attack (or vice versa) when winning or losing the ball.
The modern game is faster than in the heydays of McHale and Kamara.

I see the piss stains are getting themselves all in a tizzy at the prospect of Hylton signing for us. They need a striker and they don’t want to believe that he’d come here if he had the chance to return to the Triangle.

Things really don’t appear well over there. Another season and I reckon we’ll recover our historical position above them.

One of the downsides of Bury and Bolton imploding, is that it more or less halves the chances of Oxford getting relegated.

Yeah. That is a concern.

Still, I’m sure they can manage it!

That scummy lot up the road claiming Ched Evans and Hylton will be signing for them soon.
I'd like Hylton here and we wouldn't hear the end of it if they did poach him from under us.
(that is of course if we are actually looking at him)

I don’t think they are expecting to sign Hylton. Their gripe is that if he is available why they’re not going after him and also if he does sign for us it will put their yellow noses out of joint.

‘How can he be allowed to join Swindon when we could get him back’ sort of thing.

Tbh, I’d rather have Evans than Hylton.

Its a couple of years since I have seen Evans play but I personally would rather have Hylton as he is the style of player we badly need, Evans isn't (or wasn't) that style of striker, hes not a strong musclular target man/ball holding striker.

Both have similar scoring record of 1 goal every 3 games but Hylton has played twice the amount of games and scored twice the amount of goals yet both players are 30 years old.

I just think Hylton brings more to the team than Evans would.

TBH I think its pretty irrellivant as I honestly can't see either coming down to L2 yet.

So, out of the strikers bandied about we may be interested in, who do you consider a viable signing?

Or do you think it’s someone not even mentioned yet?

Probably the latter. It usually is.

Probably what FH says, a name we haven't been connected with as yet.

It we’re after a CDM (Rose injured/Conroy not a good one/Diagouraga not wanted), we should be looking at Anthony Grant.

Doyle to Salford is the latest rumour. Blackpool have cooled their interest and we’ve probably been blown out of the water.

If, indeed, we ever were interested.

Think he may be off to Orient. Maybe we could do an Iran-style hijack.

Lots of clubs eyeing up Grant, loads from L1, I don't think he will come back down to L2 any time soon.

Is Shrewsburys highest earner too apparently.
