Surely if Brown signs Coxy it’s got fuck all to do with him being an ex player of ours and all to do with Brown thinking he’ll score the goals to help us do something in league two this season?!
Absolutely.

Yep. I'd rather keep Mullin than sign Cox. Further I'd worry a bit about PB being a bit unimaginative in recruitment. I'd prefer to see players who I'd not heard of and had no connection to Sarfend... but let's not judge, as it's still theoretical.
After PB's interview he stated he wants to sign players he has worked with before so instantly what you want he won't deliver, which is understandable from PB.

Players he knows and can trust rather than complete unknowns to him risking the happiness of the dressing room by signing a bad apple (ala Nile Ranger) and not being able to play how he wants them to in a system familiar to them.

I don't agree. As I have already explained, he has probably not been on that much at Southend.

Apparently he is (or was before the current contract offer) Southends highest earner according to their forum.

Southend though are not big players in that league so I doubt he is on much more than most of our players TBH.

He's a 31 year old, out of contract L1 player. Chances are that wherever he is next season, he will be on less money. I can see it happening.

Sturrock was another manager who would take players from club to club with him. He didn't do too badly out of it...I'm sure plenty of others do it as well.

Yep. And if players he’s worked with in the past want to sign for him again then maybe this says a bit about him as a manager too.

He's scored 26 goals in 79 appearances since the start of 2016-17 - that's in L1. I don't think that's too bad is it? given that he would be dropping a level?

I also have to say though that if there was one player in the whole squad I would not want to see go it would be Mullin.

Poor return 26 in 79.

He was a 29 in 45 striker when he left us.

As for Mullin, good player imo but an old fashioned ‘little man’ centre forward (Steve Finney like again, imo) just need to get some wingers, find Mullin a Chief and get some crosses in...

Steve Adams, Hasney Aljofree, Barry Corr.... pretty patchy.

Got us up though. It’s not difficult to list players who’ve not pulled up any trees. All clubs will have those.

Mullin likely to join Tranmere on Monday.

I imagine player movement will pick up drastically next week.

I like Mullin but I am not sure where he fits into the current team, I would like him to stay but hes from the North West and seems to want a return there, good luck to him.

I suspect the fee we get for Mullin will be used for Cox’s wages (based on nothing at all)

In the grand scheme of things it matters not who you want, you do not want, ex players, good bad or indifferent. Plowman can dig up all the stats he likes and tease you with his open questions, lob grenages and hand you the pin but in the end PB will put together a team he hopes will do the business this season. What does matter is getting behind that team.

Sturrock got us up with mostly the players he'd inherited..... Barry Corr arrived in the March deadline, to help get us over the line. No doubt Corr was useful but made of glass.

Sturrock did in fact get Coxy in as an unknown youngster from Reading....then buggered off.  I don't object to the odd one like McGlashen, but don't want to see a retirement home for ex Sarfend players.

Totally agree Reg, we already have a couple or three over 30's any more and we're be playing walking football.
