I'm sure they'll develop shit loads in front of 300 crowds in a league of somewhat dubious standard..

still if the fuckwit doesn't put Smith in the match day squad its better at Waterford than not playing I suppose

I'm hoping they will get match tough in what is presumably a much tougher league.

So we blood other teams youngsters and not our own other than early season when we're scratching around for players. How the fuck will we know if they're good enough  other than other teams making bids or buying them. This really fucks me off.

I would have suggested Goddard but I reckon he's way to soft for that league!

I like Smith and he's looked fairly impresssive when I have seen him play. However, seeing as the 'Swindon way' is based around technical players then it's no surprise he has been shipped out. His game is more around scrapping around and being a nuisance to the opposition. Gladwin and Colkett are technically superior therefore will always get the nod. Colkett has somehow proven undroppable despite several nothing performances. Gladwin has been poor but at least we know he can always conjure something up.

The likes of Thomas and Rodgers are never going to choose to drop down to such a level that Waterford play at, its Conference South at best by all accounts, as it would be career suicide for two senior pros. Smith was the obvious one to go there.

I don't agree with it, he's the type of player who we've needed in the midfield prior to Ince arriving, but it is no surprise.

Have I gone mad or is sending young inexperienced players out on loan to get game time something every fucking team ever does and not the sign of an impending apocalypse?

Seems like Tom Smith is the new Miles Storey. He looks alright but he is far from brilliant.

not at all, people who think he'd improve the squad/offer something different are pissed off he's not being given a chance. that's all. particularly given our current plight and given the standard of competition for his position .

obviously not everyone agrees he would do that, fair enough.

Could this be the proven goalscorer and experience we sorely need?

I don't like this whole Smith is the new Miles Storey etc

There is more to this, we are playing or putting players in our squad who we know are simply not good enough, the table shows that and the shite we have seen shows that. Rodgers and Thomas our sat on our bench coming on for 10 mins and doing fuck all while we have a player like Smith who while not being a superstar or world class cares about this club and will only get better but is pottering around doing fuck all.

This isn't about young players getting development time at all it is about Waterford getting 2 decent players on loan for fuck all. He might not be great as some have said but Smith is better than the irish 2nd division ffs

Agree with DRS, this doesn't sit comfortably at all. But the proof of benefit/otherwise will be when (if?) Smith and Evans come back stronger and ready to go in our first team. If they come back at the start of next season and go straight into the 1st team, having toughened up in the Irish league, all well and good. If they don't come back or do but end up playing second fiddle to someone else's academy fringe players, then that starts to look like we might be on the Brentford path.
