There was this about the likely start date earlier today:

Mid Sept sounds about right to me.

Not a long gap for the National League play off winners to prepare for league football being that the finals not until 2nd August, that will give them 5 and a half weeks to sign players and get stuff in place to start the new season.

Blackpool seem to bandying around money without even a start date for the season yet too, a strategy that appeases fans but seems financially illogical to me at the moment.
Listening to the latest Loathed Strangers on my run this morning, Rich and Ben were discussing why Blackpool and Bolton were lobbing money about without knowing things like start date, salary cap etc. It occurred to me that this maybe both are gambling on any salary cap only applying to contracts signed after the salary cap is agreed so are looking to make some early signings to get round this?

That's one of those bollocks ITK transfer rumours accounts. All they do is just echo what everyone else is saying

I was discussing exactly this with another Town fan a couple of weeks back during the Doyle to Bolton saga and we came to a similar conclusion. I also posted on here about it somewhere too.

If they sign players now for higher than the probably wage cap then they will have to guarantee that the contract is honoured so would not be part of the impending wage/salary cap as it was signed prior to any possible impimentation of it, something the EFL will have to abide by or clubs like Sunderland would have to make 90% of all players redundant instantly if it was blanket implimented instantly.

The same applies to us signing several players on fairly long contracts (by our standards) in the last few weeks.

Even if it's reckless, I would still expect a few more clubs than what we've seen trying to 'beat' the salary cap?

Things might pick up once the season start date in 100% confirmed.

Rugby Union reduced their salary cap, with a rule that all contracts signed before a specific date were only counted at 75%

Several clubs resigned every single person on their staff to a new contract the day before the deadline.

Any rule you fancy, someone will try and bend to its fullest extent!

What happens if In a year The salary cap is lifted completely or increased? You get a raft of players now immediately underpaid through no fault of their own

If I was a player signing a contract under the salary cap I’d want my wages linked to a % of cap

True that, and then proclaim their innocence.

Ah maybe that was where I first got the idea then. Apologies if I subliminally pinched it, didn't mean to!

tbf I'm sure agents will be all over that. Along with 38 different flavours of loophole. As Panda Paws said a while back until the League sort out their regulatory mechanisms and governance they can impose whatever rules they want, they won't be abided by.

The EFL aren’t, per se, a governing body - they are an amalgam of the club’s themselves. They can only act on the club’s wishes. Which is why every damn thing has to go to a vote.
