I agree JJ but is that not true of every position?

We don't need another striker (loan situation notwithstanding) although cover would be handy...we don't need another midfielder/central defender/full back etc....

...but if a player is identified who is of sufficient quality, he's fit and we can afford him, let's get him in. Some people thought we didn't need Caddis but he's not exactly made us any worse has he?...The same was said of Anthony Grant even...

It's a very nice position to be in...
Maybe it's an Isgrove replacement? He was only on a 1 year deal wasn't he? Maybe he's caught someone's eye and is off?

If he'd not been out injured for the best part of the last two months then perhaps...but my guess would be that it's similar to the Caddis situation and that if he ticks the boxes which Caddis must have done...

Can he still play / is he injury free?
Can he add something to the squad?
Does he want to play for us?
Can we afford him?

...we'll sign him...

Edit: Maybe, given their respective injury histories, Wellens thinks he can split time between them i.e. when one is injured he will play the other or he will play them in alternate games...or maybe I'm just talking shit now....

we shall see... Hmmm

Perhaps it’s so we can play 442 again - get Yates back up top and Isgrove on the right.

Might spell the end for DJ which would be a shame - he was our best player first half v Oldham - but we have too many ahead of him when playing 4231/433 and he isn’t a left sided midfielder so isn’t a natural fit in a 442.

Thinking about it.. DJ plays the same positions as positions as Keshi - wide left in a front 3 or no 10 - and when we signed DJ it looked that Keshi was on his way out. However, Keshi has had a standout season so perhaps we, Norwich or DJ himself have decided that we don’t need both

it was only last week that wellens said how much he hates 4,4,2. Agree that DJ would be a loss. Iv enjoyed his performances on the whole.

From the Belfast telegraph:

Quote
Striker Michael O'Connor will not be returning to Linfield this month and instead has a big choice on his hands, including the prospect of a sensational switch to the Blues' Big Two rivals.

The 21-year-old went on loan to Waterford during the summer as part of the deal that brought Bastien Hery to Windsor Park.

It had been expected that O'Connor would return to the Blues squad in the January transfer window but the Belfast Telegraph understands that the Republic of Ireland U21 international will not play for the club again.

Instead, Big Two rivals Glentoran are attempting to lure O'Connor to east Belfast. The club have met Linfield's £10k asking price to complete the deal this month, although Linfield are unwilling to let the forward depart for their bitter rivals.

If the move is not done in this window, another option open to the player is a pre-contract agreement with the Glens, with the remainder of the season spent back on loan at Waterford.

It's with the south east side that O'Connor's other options lies. Waterford chairman Lee Power is also the chief at English League Two side Swindon Town.

The Belfast Telegraph understands that, should O'Connor reject the Glens, there is an option of going back to Waterford for the first half of the 2020 League of Ireland season, signing a pre-contract agreement to join Swindon in the summer.

O'Connor did sample life across the water in November, when he was handed a week-long trial at Hibernian, also playing as a guest in a reserve game for the Scottish Premiership side.

O'Connor scored nine Danske Bank Premiership goals for Linfield in the 18/19 season. Should he move to Glentoran, he would link up with brother Ciaran, who signed for the club at the start of December.

The last big-name transfer tussle between the rival clubs came in January 2014, when Glentoran defender Jimmy Callacher signed a pre-contract with rivals Linfield, before making a £10k immediate move later that month.

In January 2018, Glens forward Jonathan Smith was forced to see out the season on loan at Carrick Rangers after signing a pre-contract agreement with the Blues.

It remains to be seen how this similar transfer battle will be resolved, with Waterford and Swindon providing a further obstacle for the Glens to overcome.

That was the whole reason he took them to get them into 1st round of the chumps lge like he saw the other Irish team do, and when they was kicked out of the UEFA cup he lost a lot of money as all the money he had plowed in was to get to that point, then the next season they didn't get anywhere close to the top...
