That'll make the bench look better. Plus there's Sidi to come in (hopefully)

I suppose the Grant signing could always allow Doughty to play more forward in a no 10 role.

I think some are forgetting (not so much on here) that this won’t be our squad for the whole season, we can still bolster it in January if needed. The current crop should be more than capable of getting us a competitive points tally over the next 4 months which is the immediate focus.

This I would like to see. As much as I like seeing Doughty strut about and act like Pirlo in that deeper role, there's no doubt for me he's more effective up the pitch. And also wades in with a few classy goals too. We're scoring enough ATM, and this might suggest not changing things too much, but it would be exciting to see him further forward with our other forward options to feed off him

Who drops out for Grant though? would be very harsh on Lydon. Can't see it being Doughty when back as he offers a bit more going forward.

Not saying that it's a wrong signing, just can't 'puzzle it out'

I think it's all about options, probably gives us a greater ability to play 5 in midfield when required. If Lyden gets injured without Grant being on the scene I would have worried whether Rose or May could cover.

I suppose so -  Sidi is not a given, and for whatever reason toums is not going to play even in an hour of need

It does seem we’re overloaded in midfield, but that’s just squad depth isn’t it? We may not be used to it, but we can now out out a strong midfield with injuries.

Looking at the bench lately... no.

Squad game. Lyden and Rose both have terrible injury records. One or both get injured and suddenly we have no holding midfielders. Similar to Isgrove it wouldnt be surprising if either of them were already carrying some sort of knock that needs to be managed. That central midfield position is crucial to allow our attacking players the freedom to push on and create.

Also means we don't have to flog the same players week in week out and expect them to keep producing. When you consider the number of Saturday/Tuesday's in the schedule it makes sense to have the ability to rotate certain players.

Probably the same scenario with trying to bring in Bennett to allow the likes of Isgrove a rest here and there without losing too much quality in the side - however Toums for whatever reason (I suspect high wages and not fancying a significant drop from any interest parties) has failed to be offloaded, therefore the budget hasn't allowed for Kyle to be brought in.

That said can’t see May making the squad once the Norwich lad is back as he’ll be the loanee to miss out.

With Rose back, we’ve got five players for two spots. That’s ignoring Diagouraga, McGilp and youth teamers like the ginger Ray Parlour lookalike.
