I wonder if we will end up paying a fee for a striker that is currently in contract
I'm not sure why we are signing this young goalkeeper from Liverpool, surely he is in a par with the 2 young keepers we already have ?

I would say that George is probably classed as being on a par with Henry, Archie Matthews is just 17 and nowhere near first team ready. If an injury happens to Henry or LMc then that would leave us short. |

Not involved in the game anymore - Injury curtailed career .....just a Swindon fan..
Born and Bred in Swindon , although never played for them unfortunatley...
Played National/Non League plus a couple of seasons in L2

On the wingers thing, I think Wellens doesn't see them the way we knew them years ago. He likes the full backs to do the crossing, which may explain his willingness to let Knoyle go without too much of a fight. He likely sees we have players capable of filling the wide slots but wants them roaming and bringing the opposite defence with them, to give the width to our full back. The midfield two were making conscious efforts to fill on their side when this was being attempted last season, so it seems like a plan. The thing he did want/say he didn't have was the right players to go with two up top. That suggests he thinks of Anderson and Woolery as "wingers". May also be why he froze out McGlashan quickly - he's hardly going to vacate the wing for the right back to take that role.
The only time I think he wants them wide is a counter attack.

Tranmere, Salford. Blackpool and Bradford all linked to him, would cost a fair amount in wages and transfer fee. Looked pretty poor against us last season. This summer every player seems to be linked to Salford, Bradford and Blackpool! |
