We have wide players in Woolery and Anderson, but no wingers.

I love wingers. unfortunately it seems like they don't exist much nowadays. Just seem to be "No 10s" that play left or right.

Wingers can cross a ball, the only player we currently have who is decent at that (unless the new ones are capable) is Iandolo.

We will have a bunch of flexible forwards with different attributes. Out and out wingers are rarely seen these days.

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Fryers can play as a winger?

I'm still fairly perplexed by RW wanting just the one winger. Surely it can't be a very balanced setup with just one winger on one side of the pitch? But what do I know?

James Vaughan moves to Bradford on a 3 year deal. Don't see them keeping Doyle as well as Donaldson and Vaughan. Imagine that's some hefty wages they're paying out on those 3 and Doyle may well have to go.

Woolery and Anderson could do a job coming off the wing......

L2 / National League -

By all means tell me to fuck off- everyone on this forum has a right to not reveal their real name.
You are obviously a swindon fan- have you played for us? Still involved in the game or just a fan? Its nice to have an inside view on things and will be good to see you posting during the season.

Hefty wages but not consistent goal scorers , since 2017 Vaughan 7 goals in 71 games , Donaldson 6goals in 56 games.....

Although some Bradford fans believe the Vaughan signing means they will be champions by Christmas!!

Again, very few sides and setups need two wingers, or even one. If we play a 433, Woolery, Yates, Anderson and Twine (plus Bennett?) are all capable of playing wide. If we play a 442, one or both of the wide midfielders can tuck in, allowing us to dominate the ball and invite the FBs to get forward.

Gone are the Paul Sturrock days of two defensive midfielders, two out-and-out wingers and lump at 9 and a poacher at 10, thank god. The conversion rate of crossing is really low, and it's nowhere near the most effective way of attacking.

Bennett, one traditional wide player and two strikers makes complete sense and gives us a lot of different, flexible attacking options.

Think we'll also see a GK too.

Does anyone play with an out and out winger these days?.

Long gone are the days of a touch line hugging forward player who shimmies past a play and crosses but does very little else.

GK...  LMc, Henry, Matthews
RB... Reid, Hunt
CB... Broadbent, Curran,  Romanski,  Conroy, Audrey
LB...  Iandolo, Fryers

MF.. Rose, Toumani, Doughty. McGilp, McGlashan, Bancroft, May
Front 3.... Anderson, Woolery, Twine, Yates
So today Wellens yet again confirms this will not be the only players in the squad as he wants 4 more attacking players, 2 strikers, a proven number 10 and a winger.

I would suggest that by Wellens wanting 1 winger then it will be a player who can use either foot such as Bennett or Marshall who can take on players with both feet and get in crosses from either side without the need to cut inside and use their wrong foot.

we’re looking for a No.10 type player – Kyle Bennett will fall into that...

Sounds pretty confident of getting him...

I would probably put Bennett as more of a winger than a number 10 TBH.

Yes Bennett has filled in as that 2nd striker/free role a few times but more often than not he played his as a winger/inverted winger/free role.

I expect Wellens to get in a proper number 10 like Ajose or Doyle.

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Fryers can play as a winger?
Not so far in his career he hasn't but players can play out of position.

When we get them, I'll add them to the list to keep Horlock up to speed.
